About

Hello, my name is Dr. John MacCormack. I received BSc. and MSc. degrees in electrical engineering from University of Saskatchewan in 1982 and 1988 respectively and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering specializing in energy and environment from the University of Calgary in 2012. I have over 35 years of experience in the electrical power industry having worked in areas of disturbance analysis, power system dynamics, system operations, generation scheduling, network operations, energy risk management, transmission planning, power system reliability, production simulation modeling and deregulation. I am a past chairman of the IEEE Power Engineering Society/Industrial Applications Society Southern Alberta Section and am a Professional Engineer in the province of Alberta. I have been an independent consultant for the past 20 years and have appeared numerous times as an expert in front of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board and its successor the Alberta Utilities Commission.

I have a keen interest in the state of Alberta’s electrical power industry. Hence the creation of this blog. Here you will find articles and insights on various aspects of the power industry in Alberta. I invite you to join the discussion in the comments section.
